Use starter templates

Templates are provider-specific starter diagrams. Importing creates a separate saved diagram in a selected project; it does not merge into or overwrite the currently open canvas.

Typical time
5–10 minutes
You need
A matching project
Outcome
A new governed starter diagram
  1. Open Templates.
  2. Enter keywords in Search templates.
  3. Open filters and choose Provider, Difficulty, Cost profile, or Archetype.
  4. Clear filters to restore the available template catalogue.
  5. Choose Previous or Next to move through bounded result pages.

Search and filters are sent to the template list service. Results use cursor pagination. There is no separate user-controlled sort action on this page.

Search and filter starter templates

Show Search templates, Provider, Difficulty, Cost profile, Archetype, clear filters, and Previous/Next.

Future capture briefUse the public synthetic catalogue. Do not show private project, tenant, account, or repository information.

Every visible card matches the selected provider and filters, and the page reports how many starter templates are shown.

  1. Choose Preview on a template card.
  2. Review the resource layout, relationships, summary, and service tags.
  3. Check Readiness for Terraform, Validation, Inputs, and Default region.
  4. Choose Close if the starter is unsuitable.
  5. Choose Use template to continue with the previewed starter.

Preview is read-only. Readiness labels describe the starter catalogue entry; they do not prove that the diagram will validate after you edit it.

Review a template before import

Show the preview canvas, Summary, Readiness, Close, and Use template.

Future capture briefShow catalogue-only synthetic architecture. Exclude customer designs, account IDs, project names, and private network values.

The drawer title, provider, default region, resource counts, and readiness belong to the template card you selected.

  1. Choose Use on a card or Use template in the preview.
  2. Review or edit Diagram title.
  3. In Target project, use Search matching projects.
  4. Use Previous or Next to move through matching project pages.
  5. Select one project with the same provider as the template.
  6. Choose Learn more about templates if you need the detailed import behavior.
  7. Choose Cancel if the provider, project, or title is wrong.

Only matching-provider projects are listed. A provider mismatch prevents import; do not change project boundaries merely to bypass the guard.

Choose the target project

Show Diagram title, Target project, Search matching projects, project pagination, Learn more about templates, Cancel, and Import template.

Future capture briefUse a synthetic project and title. Hide project IDs, members, provider accounts, regions that identify a customer, and repository details.

Exactly one matching project is selected and Import template is available.

  1. Recheck the title, provider, target project, and import summary.
  2. Confirm New diagram created states that the current canvas is not overwritten.
  3. Choose Import template once.
  4. Wait for Importing… to finish.
  5. ScrinCloud opens the created diagram, or reopens the original result when the same idempotent request is replayed.

Import is a backend mutation protected by an idempotency key. It creates a diagram record and navigation result. It does not generate, plan, apply, or deploy Terraform.

Review the import impact

Show the selected title and project, New diagram created explanation, governed starter summary, and Import template.

Future capture briefUse a disposable non-production project. Redact all project IDs, tenant data, provider accounts, repository details, and customer topology.

The imported diagram opens under the selected project with the chosen title. Review its resources and relationships before making changes.

Confirm the separate imported diagram

Show the imported diagram title and project breadcrumb with the starter resources visible.

Future capture briefUse only synthetic resources and names. Hide diagram and project IDs, account details, private CIDRs, repository data, and customer annotations.

Clear one filter at a time, check the provider, and try a broader search. The catalogue may not contain every provider and archetype combination.

The current workspace context may require a different provider. Choose a matching starter or return from a neutral Templates entry point.

Clear the project search and confirm a permitted project exists for the template’s provider. Create or request access to a matching project if needed.

Resolve the unsaved-changes guard first. Import never silently overwrites the open canvas.

Do not click repeatedly. Check the notification and destination. An idempotent replay should reopen the original imported diagram rather than create duplicates.
